When being a teenager, I always got to hear that those breakouts I had was a result of my chocolate and candy consumption. But does chocolate really causing acne?
It’s unclear where the link between chocolate and acne first came from, but it has been passed down from generation to generation for at least 100 years. Whether or not eating chocolate causes acne is a longstanding debate in dermatology. Scientists and researchers have tried to find a link between breakouts and eating chocolate, but there’s no evidence to support the claim.

Chocolate cannot be directly faulted for breakouts, but there is a food-acne connection. A high-sugar/high-fat diet can increase sebum production and trigger acne. Therefore, avoid milk chocolate and white chocolate which has more dairy, sugar and other additives than dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has many health benefits, it contains antioxidants and lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
